Commenting on the news that Cornwall County Council plans to keep Camborne as a 24 hour fire station, Falmouth and Camborne MP Julia Goldsworthy said:
"It is a welcome step forward that Cornwall County Council are looking to find other ways to resolve the funding crisis in our local fire services. I am delighted that Camborne is now likely to remain a 24 hour fire station. It is only right that this is now discussed before the full council so that a final decision can be reached. With doubt still hanging over the future of Falmouth fire station there is still much work to be done before these plans are finalised.
"Cornwall County Council is clearly doing everything they can to provide the best range of services with the resources available despite the financial pressures created by the funding system. The inescapable fact, made clear by the Minister in our meeting last week, is that the Labour government is simply not interested in reaching a fair funding deal for Cornwall. People in Cornwall aren't asking for better funded services than anywhere else, but we do deserve a fair deal. Despite today's welcome news, the need for a campaign for fair funding remains and as a team of Liberal Democrat MPs we will continue to work for this.
