Julia has joined the congratulations for Camborne Town Band Music Society, who have this week won a substantial lottery grant through People's Millions.
People's Millions is a UK wide programme whose aim is to fund projects that improve the quality of life of local communities through transforming the local environment, or provide opportunities or facilities for enjoying the local area.
On Tuesday Camborne Town Band Music Society took part in a head-to-head public phone vote in a bid to gain lottery funding to refurbish their 80 year old timber bandroom. The project was featured on ITV West Country regional news that evening as one of the finalists of 'The People's Millions 2008'.
After Tuesday's votes, the Camborne Town Band Bandroom Project was declared the winner and offered the lottery grant of £58,472. The work, to completely renovate the aged band room, is due to commence in March 2009 and will include the building of toilets, disabled access and a storeroom; replacement of the ceiling and windows; and upgrading of electrics and lighting.
Commenting, Julia said:
"This is fantastic news. I would like to add my congratulations to Camborne Town Band for their success in securing this money - it's a very worthy cause and the whole town is proud of them.
"My family has a long history of association with the Music Society and it's brilliant that they will now have the facilities to match their passion!
"I would also like to thank the Big Lottery Fund and ITV for organising People's Millions and providing the opportunity to fund this project, as well as so many more throughout the UK."
