Falmouth MP Julia Goldsworthy has welcomed news today that Falmouth's main Post Office will stay on the Moor "for the foreseeable future."
Earlier in the year, Post Office Ltd came forward with proposals to relocate the Moor PO to Market Strand. The proposal was identical to one put forward several years before that had been met with huge opposition by local people.
Today's announcement was expected to confirm the move. But in a u-turn that will be welcomed by local residents, Post Office Ltd confirmed that the relocation will now not be going ahead, and that the Post Office will remain at its current site for the foreseeable future.
Commenting, Julia Goldsworthy said:
"It's welcome news that Post Office Ltd has acknowledged the huge opposition to their plans to move Falmouth's main Post Office. They are entirely right to withdraw proposals that would have resulted in poorer quality services that would have been more difficult to access.
"Concerns remain that Post Office Ltd continues to look for a 'permanent solution' to Post Office provision in Falmouth. Today's decision is the right one, and I will be urging them to stand by it, rather than attempt to renege on it for a third time."
