MP Julia Goldsworthy has welcomed a move by Cornwall Council to take action on flooding in the centre of Hayle. Julia wrote to the council about the issue after a residents' association meeting in Hayle back in August, chaired by town councillor Harry Blakely.
Residents expressed concern about regular flooding in the road outside Atlantic Motors in Hayle, which they believed to be caused by a problem with the underground drainage system. This week, Cornwall Council reported that they system had been flushed, and a more regular maintenance regime would be undertaken. From now on the drainage will be flushed every six months as a matter of course.
Julia said: "There have been longstanding problems with flooding in this area, so it's great to finally see some progress. Only time will tell whether the action the council has now promised will be sufficient, but at least they are finally acknowledging there is a problem."
