Julia driving a "Green Goddess" fire engine
MP Julia Goldsworthy and local councillor Joyce Duffin took to the wheel of a Green Goddess on Saturday in a sponsored Ladies' Driving Challenge.
They tore up the turf of RAF Portreath in the vintage 1950s fire engine to raise money for the Firefighters Charity. They also drove other unusual vehicles, like fire engines, a pony and trap, lorries and even one of Cornwall Council's pot-holing machines. The two women raised several hundred pounds between them for the charity.
Ms Goldsworthy said: "It was great fun to get behind the wheel of some vehicles that under normal circumstances no one would let me near!
"My favourite was the 50 year old green goddess - it was a real challenge to drive something so heavy without power steering and modern disc brakes. I'm pleased we were able to raise money for a local charity while having so much fun."
Cllr Duffin added: "It was a fantastic day, and quite an experience! I'd no idea how tricky it would be driving one of the council's pot-holing machines!
"The main thing is that lots of people attended and we managed to raise money for local firefighters, which is a very worthwhile cause."
